VBL Grand Final: ‘DETO’ through to semi-finals

Experience beats youth: The three-time world champion Kai ‘DETO’ Wollin today progressed to the semi-finals of the VBL Grand Final unbeaten after his successes in the Round of 16 and quarter-finals. The #B04eSports player is now one of the top four FIFA players in Germany in the 85 mode.

The otherwise calm Leverkusen FIFA player clenched his fist in victory: After a goalless draw in the first leg of the quarter-finals, ‘DETO’ came out on top in the return match with an impressive 5-0 victory over Stuttgart’s 18-year-old Lukas ‘LUKAS_1004’ Seiler. “A couple of things went right in the second match. I need to up my game even more in the next round to go through to the final,” said the 31-year-old.

The experienced PlayStation 4 player is in the semi-finals on Sunday, 28 June, at 12.05 CET (live on Free-TV at ProSieben Maxx) – this is also the day for the final. The opponent would be Mohammed ‘MOAUBA’ Harkous or Eleftherios ‘LEFTI_I’ Ilias. “Hats off for the performances to date in the Grand Final,” said Florian Dederichs, head of Internationalisation & eSports at Bayer 04 in praising the #B04eSports player.

‘DETO’ secured a 2-1 win in the Round of 16 game against Fürth player Fabio ‘FIFABIO97’ Sabbagh. The Leverkusen Xbox player Fabian ‘B04_DUBZJE’ went out at the group stage yesterday.

Season review 2025/26, part II: Highs and lows of an eventful season

Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. A season with many ups and downs brought sixth place and qualification for the UEFA Europa League. Part II of the review of the 2025/26 season.

2025/26 season review, part I: Upheaval, change, euphoria

Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. Everyone was aware this process would need time. The first part of the 2025/26 season review.
