The 23-year-old PlayStation pro has penned a deal to 30 June 2020 that takes him into his third season at Leverkusen. “I’m happy to be continuing to represent Bayer 04 and I will give my all in the forthcoming play-offs and the new season to achieve our joint targets,” said Hintz who will be at next weekend’s Global Series play-offs in Berlin (12 to 14 July) along with the other 59 best PlayStation gamers in the world looking to qualify for place at the FIFA eWorld Cup.
“We wanted to go into the new FIFA season with Marvin. He comes from Leverkusen, he identifies 100 per cent with the club and he knows what’s important to the club,” said Florian Dederichs, Head of Brand and Sales Management at Bayer 04.
Hintz, who became the first eSport gamer in the club’s history in December 2017, last season succeeded in qualifying for the international tournaments Atlanta (5th FUT Champions Cup ), London (Licensed Qualifying Event), Manchester (eChampions League) and Bucharest (3rd FUT Champions Cup). There he achieved his best return of the season with a top-eight finish. In the coming season, he will join his team-mate De Cae in competing in the newly created club championship, the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL).

Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. Everyone was aware this process would need time. The first part of the 2025/26 season review.
