In two groups of 16, the eSports pros from across Germany first competed in the Swiss Mode. The first four rounds were drawn out at random and then the players played round for round against participants with the same record of wins and defeats. The Leverkusen eSports player Marc ‘MARC_LDW23’ Landwehr ended the games in the first group in tenth place on Saturday 10 June. Kayacik played at the same time in the second group ending his games in seventh place.
The two Leverkusen players Landwehr and Kayacik each then faced each other after the group stage on Sunday 11 June, Kayacik won 1-0 to progress to the Round of 16. The Black and Red eSports player then lost 1-0 to Khalid ‘KHALIDGRL03’ Gürel (VfL Wolfsburg) and thereby missed qualification for the last eight in the VBL Grand Finals 2023.
The VBL Grand Final:
The 32 best eSports player in Germany competed in the VBL Grand Final after qualifying via the VBL Club Championships or in the play-offs in the VBL Open. The prize money was €100,000.

With sixth place at the end of the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign, Bayer 04 ended a season in the top third of the table for the ninth time in a row. While the Werkself were narrowly eliminated in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 by eventual finalists Arsenal, the Black and Reds reached the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal for the third season in succession. As in previous years, you once again have the opportunity to vote for your Player of the Season. Standing on the pitch where the Werkself players perform - for many Bayer 04 club members, this wish became reality at this year's Members' kickabout. Around 400 active participants of all ages took the opportunity to experience the BayArena from a new and special perspective. And there was also plenty going on in the stands: The event attracted more than 1,000 visitors in total and provided an atmospheric end to the season.

Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. Rogier Meijer is leaving Bayer 04 Leverkusen and returning to his native Netherlands: The 44-year-old will take over at Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam on 1 July. Meijer has been part of the Werkself coaching set-up since the start of the 2025/26 season - first as assistant coach to Erik ten Hag, then on Kasper Hjulmand's staff.
