That means Leverkusen’s pro gamers Kai ‘Deto’ Wollin and Fabian ‘B04_Dubzje’ de Cae are second in the VBL at least until tonight when Werder Bremen (currently third) meet FC Augsburg.
Former world champion ‘Deto’ started with a 1-1 draw in his individual game against Wolfsburg’s Benedikt ‘Salzor’ Saltzer on PlayStation in the evening and he said afterwards: “I had three really good chances before my opener. My opponent sat back. The goal against came from a counter-attack and that shouldn’t have happened.” His partner ‘B04_Dubzje’ won his one-on-one 2-0 on XBOX against VfL player Benedikt ‘BeneCR7X’ Bauer.
The doubles game against the Wolves ended all-square at 2-2. The #B04eSports players were “a bit disappointed” with the result but they did achieve a clear victory overall and extended their lead over Wolfsburg. De Cae: “So we can live with the five points.”
The Royal Blues were next up. Two of the three clashes with Schalke 04 on matchday 17 ended in goalless draws: ‘Deto’ and Schalke’s Julius ‘S04_Julii’ Kühle drew 0-0 on PlayStation but Wollin extended his run of five individual matches unbeaten.
In the doubles game with the Royal Blues also ended goalless. “It was 90 minutes of a midfield battle,” said the disappointed #B04eSports players. Only ‘B04_Dubzje’ scored in his game on XBOX with a brace to clock up a 2-0 win against ‘S04 Tim Latka’ Schwartmann.
With four matchdays to go, Leverkusen have a ten-point lead over seventh place, which is the first spot that does not guarantee a place in the VBL Grand Final. That tournament determines the Individual Champion of Germany.
The teams in the VBL positions seven to sixteen provide two players each who can qualify for the VBL play-off. In addition, there are other players in the VBL Open who can compete as individuals on FIFA 20.

Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. A season with many ups and downs brought sixth place and qualification for the UEFA Europa League. Part II of the review of the 2025/26 season.

Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. Everyone was aware this process would need time. The first part of the 2025/26 season review.
