#B04eSports: Leverkusen miss out on a place in the offline round of showdown two

Eliminated ahead of the offline round: On Tuesday, 18 November, the Leverkusen console pros played the two remaining matches in the online preliminary round of showdown two. After picking up six points from the first four games last week, the #B04eSports team bagged another three in the two final duels - but it wasn't enough. The Leverkusen team missed out on a place in the offline knockout round, which will take place in this second showdown on 23 November in Frankfurt am Main.

In showdown one, Leverkusen had won four of the six matches, which were drawn as usual in the online preliminary round. That meant they progressed to the offline knockout round in Leipzig, where they won the showdown. Now, in the second showdown, they failed to make it through to the offline round. With six points, Black & Red were in 17th place in the showdown two table before the start of yesterday's two games. To progress, they had to finish in the top 16. And it seemed that they would succeed at first.

Comeback keeps hopes of progressing alive

The first match of the day - the fifth of this online preliminary round of showdown two - was against Karlsruher SC. Sean ‘SEAN_LDW07’ Landwehr came up against Anton ‘EINFACHANTON’ Grienko and quickly took a 2-0 lead. Despite the KSC eSport player pulling one back to make it 2-1, Bayer 04 won game one of the encounter with the team from Baden.

Marc ‘MARC_LDW23’ Landwehr - with the one-goal cushion - then made things exciting in game two. The Leverkusen player went 2-0 down against Julien ‘JULIEN_FNGK’ Fungk. At this point, KSC were ahead overall. Then the game went back and forth. First Landwehr found his scoring form and made it 3-2. That was followed by an equaliser, Leverkusen taking the lead again and another equaliser. In the end, Landwehr scored two more goals to achieve a 6-4 victory. The 8-5 aggregate score secured an important three points.

RUTHLESS foals with knockout blow

The final match against Borussia Mönchengladbach was an all-or-nothing affair in the battle for a place in the offline round. But the Foals quickly threw a spanner in the Black and Red works. Sean Landwehr lost 6-1 to Lukas “LUKAS_OFFICIAL11” Wolff, while Marc Landwehr faced a mammoth task that he was unable to complete. He initially took a 2-0 lead against ‘JISTENNSQ’, but ultimately lost 5-4, meaning no points were secured against BMG.

Coming up: No offline round - showdown three in December

With nine points, the #B04eSports team finished the online preliminary round of this second showdown in 21st place, meaning they will not take part in the offline knockout round in Frankfurt at the weekend.

In the overall table, in which all points from all online preliminary rounds (3 points per win) and all offline rounds (2 per knockout duel won) are added up, Bayer 04 still sit in fifth place, also thanks to the showdown one victory, in which they were able to pick up several additional points. After the offline round in Frankfurt, Bayer 04 will surely drop further down the table, as their rivals will now pick up extra points.

The #B04eSports team's next game is not until next month. The third of the five showdowns in this VBL-CC season starts on 11 December. Leverkusen will once again face six previously drawn opponents, against whom they'll aim to pick up enough points to progress to the offline round (19 December in Cologne).
