Previous results saw the #B04eSports team drop down to next to bottom in the division. The match on Thursday night demonstrated that Marc 'MARC_LDW23' Landwehr and Sean 'Sean_LDW07' Landwehr were not happy with this situation.
In the 2 vs 2 game, the Leverkusen eSports players faced Steffen ‘FUNINO’ Pöppe and Brandon ‘HSV_PERKKIX’ Wüschem. After taking an early lead, the Landwehr cousins added two goals over the course of the game to diminish any remaining hopes for the Hamburg pair. The Leverkusen players deservedly won 4-2 in the end.
In the single player game, Sean Landwehr was up against Daniel ‘HSV_Daniel7’ Dwelk. It was end-to-end action in an exciting match. The Hamburg eSports player took an early lead. The Black and Reds turned the match around on 35 minutes but the opponents levelled two minutes later. And it lasted two more minutes before Sean Landwehr cancelled out a renewed lead for ‘HSV_DANIEL7’. The scoreline on 67 minutes was 3-3. The Leverkusen eSports player upped his game again and netted two more goals. The scoring in a crazy game was finally completed with a late consolation strike on 90 minutes for the final score of 5-4 – three points were secured.
The importance of this win is reflected in the table in the North West division in the VBL CC. The #B04eSports team have now moved up to eleventh place from sixteenth. The play-off spots are still seven points away but now there’s everything to play for.
The next game for the #B04eSports team is on Tuesday, 28 January. The clash with Preußen Münster, who are two points behind the Black and Reds in sixteenth place, starts at 21.00 CET. Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. The Bayer 04 Women’s squad for the coming season is continuing to take shape: Centre-back Emily Wallrabenstein has moved to Leverkusen from Eintracht Frankfurt’s reserve team, who play in the Women’s Bundesliga 2. The 19-year-old has penned a contract until 30 June 2028.
