The Bayer 04 console players kicked off Tuesday night with a match against Hamburg SV, the current leaders of the North-West division. Marc ‘Marc_LDW23’ Landwehr " began with a one-on-one encounter on PlayStation 5. It looked like the game would end goalless but the Leverkusen player conceded late on. A draw would have been fair given the parity in shots on goal.
That was followed by the one-on-one on Xbox for Fabian ‘B04_DUBZJE’ de Cae. The recovered 24-year-old drew with his Hamburg opposite number Steffen ‘FUNINO’ Pöppe with neither side scoring.
In the following two vs two, ‘FURKY’ swapped his commentator mic for his controller with the new signing alongside ‘MARC_LDW23’ – with success! The Black and Red duo beat HSV 1-0 thanks to a late goal with Bayer 04 securing an overall result of 4-4 against the league leaders.
The team identity of the Leverkusen players was not only evident on the consoles: ‘B04_DUBZJE’ and Paul ‘B04_PAUL’ Degner stepped in for 'Furky' during the two vs two clash as presenters of the live stream.
The games against SC Paderborn 07 began later in the evening with the Werkself starting with the same players as against Hamburg. And ‘MARC_LDW23’ was able to pick up three points in his one-on-one and PS 5: There was a 2-1 win for the first three points against Paderborn’s Jannis ‘JISTENNSQ’ Pütz. The following one-on-one on Xbox again ended goalless for ‘B04_DUBZJE’ and the Black and Reds were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline in the two vs two game.
The results make Kayacik and Co. the best defence of all the teams in the North-West division: They have only conceded 19 goals in total so far.
After eight VBL Club Champions matchdays, the #B04eSports players are fifth in division on 35 points. The gap to the top spot is only five points. Bayer 04 are back in action next Tuesday, 7 December, with matches against Werder Bremen (18.00 CET) and Hansa Rostock (20.00 CET). High spirits and previously untold stories: Around 100 Bayer 04 fans packed the Schwadbud fan pub in the east stand of the BayArena on Thursday evening to be there in person for the first instalment of the new series of events entitled “Rudi lädt ein” (Rudi invites you). They listened intently as long-serving Werkself players Gonzalo Castro and Stefan Kießling chatted with record appearance-maker Rüdiger Vollborn and presenter and stadium announcer Tobias Ufer about their many years together at the club, shared amusing anecdotes and revealed dressing room secrets. Anyone who missed the premiere can already look forward to the second instalment – on 12 May, Rudi will be testing the expert knowledge of Bayer 04 fans during a quiz night.

The Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg in the first half of the season was one of those classic ‘days to forget’ for Bayer 04 Women. It started with goalkeeper Charlotte Voll being shown a red card in the first minute of the game, and following a further sending-off, coach Roberto Pätzold's 9-women side ended up losing 5-1 to last season's runners-up. At 18.30 CET on Sunday, they'll have the chance to exact revenge at the AOK Stadium - and pick up valuable points in the race for third place.
