The Youth League opener is over. Our U19 team got off to a flying start against Club Brugge with Zidan Sertdemir netting the first goal. The team under head coach Sven Hübscher then conceded four goals with the first fixture of the European campaign in 2022/23 ending in a 4-1 defeat. 890 spectators watched the game in Roeselare, including Fernando Carro, Simon Rolfes and Rudi Völler. The Black and Red U19 players now head home to Leverkusen on the team bus. Have a safe journey, lads.

The Werkself are about to set off on the team bus for the warm-up session at the Jan Breydel Stadium. A suitable point in time to provide some information on today's venue: The stadium was opened in 1975 and has a capacity of 29,000. The ground is named after Jan Breydel one of the leaders of the Bruges matins – a bloody rebellion against the French King Philip IV at the start of the 14th century.

Our lads have inspected the pitch at the Jan Breydel Stadium and now they are off to the team hotel in the best of moods and with great anticipation ahead of tomorrow's match with the evening meal the last agenda item on the day of arrival. Lukas Hradecky and Co. will than have time to chill out.

The arrival of the Werkself is gradually drawing to a close. In around 30 minutes, the destination of the Jan Breydel Stadium will have been reached. The Werkself meet up for the final session at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium at 11.00 CEST ahead of the away game in the Champions League. The Black and Red group will then head off by coach to West Flanders. On the agenda in the evening is a view of the pitch and the press conference at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

The Werkself are back in the UEFA Champions League: After a break of two years, the Werkself are away to Club Brugge tomorrow night in the first group match. The kick-off at the Jan Breydel Stadium is at 21.00 CEST.

Today brings the first match of the season for the Werkself. Bayer 04 kick off the 2026/27 campaign today, Saturday 22 August, at 13:00 CEST with a first-round DFB Pokal tie away to third-tier side SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The 3,700 travelling fans can not only look forward to what will hopefully be a successful start to the season, but also now organise their journeys to Black and Reds games even more easily via the WERKSELFgo car-share platform. Meanwhile, following two defeats at the start of the league season, SV Wehen are hoping to spring a surprise in the DFB Pokal tie. Today’s matchday news.

Carolin Simon is the new captain of the Bayer 04 women’s team. The full-back, who joined from Bayern Munich in the summer, will take over the captain’s armband for the 2026/27 season. Simon returned to Leverkusen in the summer after ten years away. The 33-year-old succeeds goalkeeper Friederike Repohl, who retired at the end of last season.

After 62 days of preparation, the time has finally come: the Werkself kick off the new Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga season on Sunday (16:00 CEST) with an away match at RB Leipzig. Following a major shake-up over the summer, with eleven players leaving and twelve new signings, initial impressions from the past few weeks have given manager Roberto Pätzold great cause for optimism.

SV Wehen Wiesbaden undoubtedly envisaged a different start to the new season. After two matchdays, the Hessen side currently sit bottom of the Liga 3 table. On Saturday 22 August (kick-off: 13:00 CEST), SVWW host the Werkself in the first round of the DFB Pokal at their home ground, the BRITA Arena.
