The park&ride car park at Kurtekotten is now assessable and can be used as normal by fans heading to the BayArena. However, there are diversions in the city, including closures of the roads leading to the APCOA car park, Kinopolis and Rathausgalerie. Please check before you travel and allow plenty of time to get to the stadium.
The Werkself boast an unbeaten home record against Union, winning six out of nine such fixtures. That includes a run of four straight clean sheets at the BayArena. Set pieces will have been of particular focus for Carles Martínez’s team in their preparation, given the Berliners scored around half of their goals last season from dead balls, as well as two out of three in their 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Mauro Lustrinelli’s Bundesliga debut last weekend.
In terms of Leverkusen’s attack, they have scored 35 goals in 17 meetings, which is over three times more than Union have managed. Five of those have gone to Diaby in his first spell at the BayArena, making them his joint-favourite club to face throughout his professional career. Adding to that total would be a big way to mark his homecoming in Leverkusen.

The Köpenick club may have retained their set-piece prowess under new coach Lustrinelli, but the man who led promoted Thun to the title in Switzerland last season is looking to change the team’s style of play. He has already switched from the long-established back three to a four, wants to press higher and be more active on the ball. They have strengthened throughout the team with the additions of centre-back Felix Uduokhai and striker Emmanuel Latte Lath. One thing that won’t change is Union’s desire to always be an awkward opponent with iron will. Read more about them in our in-depth analysis.
