
When it became clear the remaining Bundesliga fixtures would be played behind closed doors, Andreas Paffrath and Co. started thinking about possible alternatives. “The fans can tune in to Sky or Werkself Radio. But that obviously does not provide a specific description of the where the ball is during the game,” explained disability liaison officer Paffrath.
So heads were virtually put together in Leverkusen. The solution: Two of the match commentators for the visually impaired will from now on broadcast – in compliance with hygiene regulations – from the fan club house 15 minutes before kick-off. That means the service, introduced 20 years ago by Bayer 04 as the first Bundesliga club, will be maintained during the coronavirus pandemic. The link starts 15 minutes before kick-off for all Werkself home and away games.
