Last week, video game developer Electronic Arts (EA) together with the German Football League (DFL) announced the six nominees for the December 2024 Bundesliga Player of the Month award. Florian Wirtz came out on top in the vote ahead of Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich (both FC Bayern Munich), Paul Nebel (1. FSV Mainz 05), Mitchell Weiser (SV Werder Bremen) and Nick Woltemade (VfB Stuttgart).
The Werkself won all three of their Bundesliga fixtures in December, beating promoted side FC St. Pauli 2-1 at home, winning 2-0 at FC Augsburg and then ending 2024 with a 5-1 victory at home to SC Freiburg. Wirtz started and scored a goal in each match as well as setting up three goals against Freiburg - the most assists he's ever managed in a league game.

The Ivory Coast international Odilon Kossounou has completed the move from Bayer 04 Leverkusen to top-flight Italian club Atalanta. The Champions League participants from Lombardy took up the option to buy the 1.91 metre central defender who went out on loan to Atalanta at the start of the 2024/25 season.

Bayer 04 new signing Carlotta Wamser has been called up to the Germany squad for the Women's EURO 2025 finals in Switzerland. For the 21-year-old winger, who is set to join Bayer 04 from Eintracht Frankfurt for next season, it is the first participation in a big international tournament.
