Wirtz scoops Bundesliga December Player of the Month

Werkself star Florian Wirtz has been voted the Bundesliga December 2024 Player of the Month. It's the first of these awards for the 21-year-old Germany international this season, having previously been shortlisted in September and November. Wirtz is now on five Player of the Month awards in his career overall.

Last week, video game developer Electronic Arts (EA) together with the German Football League (DFL) announced the six nominees for the December 2024 Bundesliga Player of the Month award. Florian Wirtz came out on top in the vote ahead of Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich (both FC Bayern Munich), Paul Nebel (1. FSV Mainz 05), Mitchell Weiser (SV Werder Bremen) and Nick Woltemade (VfB Stuttgart).

The Werkself won all three of their Bundesliga fixtures in December, beating promoted side FC St. Pauli 2-1 at home, winning 2-0 at FC Augsburg and then ending 2024 with a 5-1 victory at home to SC Freiburg. Wirtz started and scored a goal in each match as well as setting up three goals against Freiburg - the most assists he's ever managed in a league game.
