The next important step on the road to his comeback has been completed: On his return to training with the team, Florian Wirtz was clearly happy to be involved in several drills on Monday morning – for the first time under the guidance of Bayer 04 head coach Xabi Alonso.
Also part of the group training was Karim Bellarabi, who completed the whole of the Monday session. The 32-year-old winger suffered a knee injury in the middle of August. Exequiel Palacios, who has been sidelined since the middle of September with a muscle injury, also trained with the team at the start of the week.
He is the best example of how far successful and professional youth development can go: Kai Havertz joined Bayer 04 from Alemannia Aachen at the age of eleven. At 17, the Germany international made his first appearance for the senior team, graduated from high school in Leverkusen and is still the youngest player ever to make one hundred appearances in the Bundesliga.
