Werkself begin final week of pre-season with open session – Fernández: 'Something's growing together here'

Despite the heavy rain across Leverkusen in the morning, hundreds of supporters came to the BayArena. They witnessed an intensive and high-tempo session with various drills, lasting around 90 minutes. Robert Andrich, Arthur and Eliesse Ben Seghir were not with the group on the pitch, with the trio completing an individual programme instead, while Afonso Moreira took it easier after a minor knock.

Fernández: 'Want to give something back to the fans'

After the session, midfielder Ezequiel Fernández spoke to the media in attendance. "I really enjoy playing for this club with my team-mates and living in Germany," stressed the 24-year-old.

Looking ahead to the new season, the Argentinian added: "Having arrived last summer after the season had already started, this pre-season together has really helped. I want to give my all and help the team as much as possible. We already felt in the training camp and in the friendlies that something is growing together again here. The coach obviously has a big part in that - he brings passion, hunger and will to win. Bayer 04 is a big club, we want to represent it as well as possible and give something back to our fans after last season."

Werkself fans can look forward to one more open session with Fernández and Co this week. This is scheduled for Thursday 20 August at 11:00 CEST at the BayArena.
