Palacios and Hincapie in action at Copa América

While ten Werkself players are currently involved in Euro 2024, two other Bayer 04 stars are set to play in the Copa América: Exequiel Palacios with Argentina and Piero Hincapie with Ecuador with the tournament staged in the USA. Read on for information on the matches involving the Leverkusen Copa América players.

After wins in the build-up matches against Ecuador (1-0) and Guatemala (4-1), Werkself player Exequiel Palacios has been called up to the Argentina squad for the tournament. The Albiceleste will start the Copa América in the night from Thursday 20 June to Friday 21 June at 02.00 CEST against Canada in Atlanta, Georgia. DAZN will broadcast this match live as well as all the other games in the Copa América. The 2022 World Cup winners will also face Chile and Peru in Group A.

Hincapie opener against Venezuela

Piero Hincapie is in the Ecuador squad and their first group match is against Venezuela in Santa Clara, California. The match kicks off at midnight on the night from Saturday 22 June to Sunday 23 June. Ecuador's other opponents in Group B are Jamaica and Mexico.

High spirits and previously untold stories: Around 100 Bayer 04 fans packed the Schwadbud fan pub in the east stand of the BayArena on Thursday evening to be there in person for the first instalment of the new series of events entitled “Rudi lädt ein” (Rudi invites you). They listened intently as long-serving Werkself players Gonzalo Castro and Stefan Kießling chatted with record appearance-maker Rüdiger Vollborn and presenter and stadium announcer Tobias Ufer about their many years together at the club, shared amusing anecdotes and revealed dressing room secrets. Anyone who missed the premiere can already look forward to the second instalment – on 12 May, Rudi will be testing the expert knowledge of Bayer 04 fans during a quiz night.
