No tradition since 1904 – Bayer 04 release 120th anniversary kit

The German double winners’ special-edition jersey to mark the club’s 120th anniversary is reminiscent of the first kit worn by players back in the 1907/08 season. The jersey, which the Werkself will wear for the Bundesliga home game against Holstein Kiel on Saturday, 5 October and which has been met with enthusiasm by the players, has numerous special features relating to the club's history, including an NFC chip that leads to exclusive content when scanned with a smartphone.

The real highlight is the original logo from Turn- und Spielverein der Farbenfabriken vorm. Friedrich Bayer & Co. in Leverkusen on the left chest. On the right is the tone-on-tone coloured logo of British kit supplier Castore. The Bayer 04 sponsors are also presented in tone-on-tone colour. The historic Barmenia logo is emblazoned on the chest, while the neck is adorned with Werkself lettering.

The black ‘costumes’, as the sportswear was called 120 years ago, are also characterised by a striking red collar and golden buttons below the collar.

Another special feature is a so-called NFC chip that is built into the special jersey below the logo on the chest. When fans hold their smartphone over the logo, a page with exclusive content opens in the Bayer 04 app. Among other things, there will be a competition with the main prize of two VIP tickets for the Champions League home game against Inter Milan. A signed Bundesliga jersey and the special goalkeeper jersey worn can also be won.

Information on printing

The special jersey can be customised with player and personal names. Fans can look forward to a very special style of printing on the back. If a name is selected, the sleeves will be also embellished with the official golden champions badge (right) and the Niedax partner logo in a dark grey tone-on-tone look (left).

The price for children's sizes (134-164) is €64.90, while for adults (S-5XL) it costs €99.90.

Club members also have the exclusive opportunity to purchase the special jersey in the limited-edition PRO version to experience the quality that Florian Wirtz and Co. wear on the pitch. This version will be sent in a special box with an official certificate and its own certificate number. The PRO version is only available in adult sizes at a price of €149.90.

Following the record sales figures from the double-winning season, the new jerseys for the current 2024/25 season are also in high demand. At this early stage of the season, over 45,000 new home, away and substitute jerseys are already being worn.

Youth teams review 2025: Thrilling final and historic progress in Youth League

Last-minute ecstasy, huge disappointment and a historic performance on the European stage - 2025 was a real emotional roller coaster, especially for the U19s. A rousing run in the knockout phase secured the team a place in the final of the German championships, where they lost by the narrowest of margins. Despite the departure of several key players, the young Werkself team quickly regained their usual strength and qualified for the knockout rounds in the UEFA Youth League for the first time at the end of the year. In 2025, youngsters Jeremiah Mensah and Montrell Culbreath made their debuts in the Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal and the UEFA Champions League. The other youth teams also contributed great performances and a number of trophies to the collective Black and Red success, while the successful Bayer 04 Future Kids project broke new ground.
