The German Football Association (DFB) has appointed Daniel Siebert as today's referee. The 37-year-old has previously been in charge of 18 Werkself games – resulting in seven wins, four draws and seven defeats and he has also issued 34 yellow cards and four reds to the Black and Reds. Siebert will be assisted by Lasse Koslowski and Jan Seidel, with Pascal Müller the VAR. Have a good game!
There are no longer any restrictions for home games at the BayArena following recent changes to the state Coronavirus Protection Order. That means the capacity at the BayArena is again restored to 30,210 and there are also standing areas in the home and away ends. The mask mandate no longer applies to areas in the open air but Bayer 04 do recommend the continued earing of the face covering. Further information can be found in the home game FAQs.
The Cup dream for the Bayer 04 Women's team lives on. There is one hurdle left before the big final in Cologne – the team under head coach Achim Feifel face FFC Turbine Potsdam in the semi-finals. The team from Brandenburg are the visitors to the Ulrich Haberland Stadium on Easter Monday 18 April at 18.30 CEST. Tickets for the match are available now – including at the Werkself home game against Leipzig at a discounted price and are again available from the Fan liaison 'Fankiste'.
Charles Aránguiz today celebrates his 33rd birthday. The Chile international joined the Werkself seven years ago and has worked with commitment and passion in front of the defence for the success of the Black and Reds. Aránguiz has made 133 Bundesliga appearances to date (nine goals, 20 assists). Many happy returns, Charly – here’s to three birthday points against Leipzig.

Today brings the first match of the season for the Werkself. Bayer 04 kick off the 2026/27 campaign today, Saturday 22 August, at 13:00 CEST with a first-round DFB Pokal tie away to third-tier side SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The 3,700 travelling fans can not only look forward to what will hopefully be a successful start to the season, but also now organise their journeys to Black and Reds games even more easily via the WERKSELFgo car-share platform. Carolin Simon is the new captain of the Bayer 04 women’s team. The full-back, who joined from Bayern Munich in the summer, will take over the captain’s armband for the 2026/27 season. Simon returned to Leverkusen in the summer after ten years away. The 33-year-old succeeds goalkeeper Friederike Repohl, who retired at the end of last season.

After 62 days of preparation, the time has finally come: the Werkself kick off the new Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga season on Sunday (16:00 CEST) with an away match at RB Leipzig. SV Wehen Wiesbaden undoubtedly envisaged a different start to the new season. After two matchdays, the Hessen side currently sit bottom of the Liga 3 table.
