New plan for the Bayer 04 Campus: Area reduced by a third, green corridor widened

Bayer 04 has presented the groups on the Monheim council with extensively revised proposals for the planned Campus. As part of constructive discussions, the club presented a plan to the CDU, SPD, Greens, FDP, PETO and the Left Party that envisages a one-third reduction in the area of the site on Alfred-Nobel-Strasse. The distance to neighbours will be increased by almost 60 percent. The green corridor will therefore be significantly larger than previously planned. Here are the main changes.

THE NEW PLAN

Amendments at a glance:

  • The area has been reduced by a third and is now only 14.8 hectares in size. And only a part of this will be sealed off.
  • Only as many pitches are to be built as absolutely necessary. Two complete training pitches will be dispensed with. Hybrid and state-of-the-art artificial turf pitches will be used.
  • The distance to the neighbours has been increased by almost 60 percent. The distance between the Campus and neighbouring properties is now between 115 metres and 260 metres.
  • The green corridor will be significantly widened in the new plan. At the same time, the Campus will be designed to be as sustainable as possible.
  • The multi-storey car park belonging to the Campus will now be integrated into the existing Bayer site.
  • With a specially developed water management system, the impact on people, animals and the environment is reduced to an absolute minimum.
  • Monheim is set to benefit even more. In addition to around 150 new jobs, the Campus will offer facilities for local clubs and schools. And companies from the region will be involved in construction and operation of the site HERE.

council rescinds planning procedure

At the beginning of November, Monheim council rescinded the previous urban land-use plan by 24 votes to 19 with four abstentions. In doing so, the council adopted a motion by the CDU, SPD, Alliance 90/The Greens and FDP. The new plan is based on the findings of previous consultation and discussions with the party groups on the council.
