Narrow defeat for Aleksandar and Julian with Austria

Eight Bayer 04 pros are in action in the coming days in friendlies and European qualifiers.

In addition to Julian Brandt, Jonathan Tah and Kai Havertz (Germany), Julian Baumgartlinger and Aleksandar Dragovic (Austria), Lukas Hradecky (Finland), Charles Aránguiz (Chile), Tin Jedvaj (Croatia) and Adrian Stanilewicz (Poland U20s) are currently away on international duty.

In Austria's 1-0 defeat against Poland on Thursday night, Aleksandar Dragovic and Austria skipper Julian Baumgartlinger were both in the starting line-up. Both the Werkself players went the full distance in the European qualifier. In contrast, Tin Jedvaj was not in the squad for the World Cup runners-up Croatia on their 2-1 win against Azerbaijan in a European qualifier. Youth player Adrian Stanilewicz was not only in the starting eleven for the  Poland U 20s but he also completed the full 90 minutes. His team registered a convincing 4-1 victory over Japan.

Bundesliga record for the Werkself: Women celebrate 14th win of the season in Essen

The Bayer 04 Women have kept their chance of qualifying for the Champions League alive in the Bundesliga run-in. Coach Roberto Pätzold's team won 4-0 at SGS Essen on Sunday afternoon, improving their record from last season to 14 wins this term. With 43 points, the Werkself equalled another record from the 2024/25 season and at the same time reduced the gap to third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt to two points, at least for tonight. Loreen Bender (4’), Kristin Kögel (41’, 68’) and Cornelia Kramer (89’) scored for the Black and Reds, who dominated the game to record their fourth win on the bounce.
