Internationals: Bailey scores first goal for Reggae Boyz

Twelve Werkself pros are currently away on international duty. Leon Bailey and Lucas Hradecky were in action at the weekend.

Leon Bailey scored his first goal for Jamaica. In his fifth appearance for the Reggae Boyz, the Werkself number nine made it 5-0 in the 6-0 victory against Antigua and Barbuda in Montego Bay in the CONCACAF Nations League match (Group B) and he also set up the second and third goals.

Unlucky defeat for Hradecky and Finland

It didn't go so well for Lukas Hradecky. The Werkself number one was unlucky to be on the losing side on Sunday evening with Finland in the Euro qualifiers in the top match in Group J against group leaders Italy. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat and there was no chance of revenge from the first meeting in March. Hradecky demonstrated his ability on several occasions but the 29-year-old did not stand a chance with the goals, particularly with the penalty to make it 2-1. Finland are still in second place in the group on 12 points behind the unbeaten Italy side on 18 points.

Marc Lamti played for the Tunisia U23s in a 1-0 defeat against the Cameroon U23 side on Friday in the qualifiers for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Seven players in action on Monday

Other international fixtures are being played today: Germany, with Kai Havertz and Jonathan Tah and the squad, are away in Belfast in the Euro qualifiers (kick-off: 20.45 CET) against the as yet unbeaten group leaders Northern Ireland (Group C). At the same time, Austria, with Julian Baumgartlinger and Aleksandar Dragovic, play the top side in Group G Poland. In addition, Paulinho (Brazil U23), Moussa Diaby (France U21) and Adrian Stanilewicz (Poland U20) are set to play for their national teams.

Werkself Review #OLYB04: 'The first step is done'

It took exactly 60 minutes for the Werkself to take the lead through a perfectly finished counter-attack by Patrik Schick in the first leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League play-off at Olympiacos. Referring to the meeting in the league phase and the initially squandered opportunities, coach Kasper Hjulmand said afterwards: "I thought: 'Oh no, déjà-vu.'" But after the opening goal, it took just 144 seconds for the Czech to spark more wild celebrations among those in black and red in the Greek cauldron, when Schick nodded in Alejandro Grimaldo's corner. Much to the delight of the Bayer 04 fans, his teammates and his coach, who had warm words for the striker in the aftermath. The Werkself Review.

Matchday news #OLYB04: ‘Seize the chance for revenge’

Bayer 04 and Olympiacos had only met twice before the current UEFA Champions campaign. After the encounter on Matchday 7 of this season’s league phase, the Werkself travel to face the Greek side for the second time in just four weeks for the knockout play-off first leg. The Black and Reds were dominant for large spells in mid-January but lost 2-0 after missing a number of presentable chances. The Werkself aim to do better on Wednesday night to “seize the chance for revenge,” as managing director sport Simon Rolfes put it.
