Florian Wirtz sidelined

Bayer 04 will have to manage without Florian Wirtz. The Germany international suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle in the home game against Werder Bremen (0-2) on Saturday. That was the diagnosis from an MRI scan following the game. The 21-year-old midfielder will be out of action for several weeks.

Wirtz was brought on at the start of the second half but had to go off after a foul on 59 minutes.

"The loss of Florian obviously hits us hard in this phase of the season but we will compensate for him with a strong squad," said Simon Rolfes, Bayer 04 sporting managing director. "We know Florian and also know he will come back as soon as possible. Everybody will support him in that. We are assuming he will be fully fit again for the end of the season run-in."

When the new season in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga is officially opened on Saturday, 6 September (17:45 CEST) the Leverkusen women will be playing against Bayern Munich in front of 30,000 spectators at the Allianz Arena. It is already certain that so many fans have never before been at a home game for the double winners from Munich. And the Black and Reds have never played in front of that many fans before either and they will be looking for the backing of their own support.
