The European Championship title is also celebrated by former Leverkusen player Levin Öztunali and Daniel Niedzkowski, now assistant coach to the Germany U21s.
The team coached by Stefan Kuntz beat Spain 1-0 in the final. Mitchell Weiser headed the Germany U21s to victory with his goal on 40 minutes. This is the first U21 European Championship title for Germany since 2009. Dominik Kohr came off the bench on 83 minutes. It was his second appearance in the European Championships in Poland. He also came on in the semi-final against England (4-3 on penalties).
The win against the favourites La Rojita was deserved as the German team was the better side in Kraków. Germany dominated proceedings above all in the first half. Spain exerted pressure during phases of the second half but the Germany U21s defended passionately and also had a chance to make it 2-0. It was joy unbounded for the Germany team and staff at the final whistle. The second U21 European Championship title was celebrated in style. And Dominik Kohr was at the centre of the celebrations.
