Colombia's final penalty taker William Tesillo missed the target with his spot kick in the penalty shootout. The Chile captain Alexis Sanchez held his nerve and his strike made it 5-4 to secure a place in the semi-finals. Chile's dream of winning the Copa America for the third time in succession lives on. The semi-final against record winners Uruguay (15 titles) or Peru will be played in Porto Alegre in the early hours of Thursday morning. Brazil and Argentina meet in the first semi-final in Belo Horizonte the day before.
The scoreline in São Paulo was 0-0 after 90 minutes and at the end of extra time. Albeit, Chile twice thought they had scored. First of all, a goal from Charles Aránguiz was ruled out following VAR as Sanchez was offside and after the restart the referee also chalked off a goal scored by Arturo Vidal due to a handball by Guillermo Maripan again after consulting the VAR. Aránguiz had a good chance to score after 12 minutes but the Colombia keeper David Ospina kept out his header with a sensational save. The Bayer 04 pro, who has had a great tournament to date, was substituted on 67 minutes.
Bayer 04 U19 player Marc Lamti watched from the bench as Tunisia drew 1-1 with Mali in Group E at the Africa Cup. Tunisia also drew 1-1 in the first game against Angola. Lamti, who was able to train with the Werkself first team squad last season, made his surprise debut for his country at the start of June. The final group match for Tunisia is on Tuesday (21.00 CET) against Mauritania.

Today sees Bayer 04 go head-to-head with their next direct rivals in the race for Champions League qualification (kick-off 15:30 CEST). Opponents Stuttgart are currently fifth in the table, level on points with the Werkself but one place below them due to a three-goal inferior goal difference. The Black and Reds' record at Bad Cannstatt tells a clearer story: they've not lost at VfB for over 16 years. One important factor in securing what would be three crucial points away from home is Leverkusen's strength on the counter-attack. Whilst Stuttgart are also extremely dangerous going forward, they will be without their captain. Today’s matchday news.

It's a thrilling situation: as the season draws to a close, Stuttgart and Bayer 04 are heading into the home stretch almost neck and neck. After 32 games, with 17 wins, seven draws and eight defeats each, both teams are on 58 points. Even in terms of goals scored, VfB and the Werkself are level on 66. The Black and Reds have conceded just three fewer goals (43) than their rivals (46), which is why they sit one place behind fourth-placed Leverkusen. This Saturday, 9 May (kick-off: 15.30 CEST), the two teams go head to head at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart. The lowdown on our next opponents.
