
Colombia's final penalty taker William Tesillo missed the target with his spot kick in the penalty shootout. The Chile captain Alexis Sanchez held his nerve and his strike made it 5-4 to secure a place in the semi-finals. Chile's dream of winning the Copa America for the third time in succession lives on. The semi-final against record winners Uruguay (15 titles) or Peru will be played in Porto Alegre in the early hours of Thursday morning. Brazil and Argentina meet in the first semi-final in Belo Horizonte the day before.
The scoreline in São Paulo was 0-0 after 90 minutes and at the end of extra time. Albeit, Chile twice thought they had scored. First of all, a goal from Charles Aránguiz was ruled out following VAR as Sanchez was offside and after the restart the referee also chalked off a goal scored by Arturo Vidal due to a handball by Guillermo Maripan again after consulting the VAR. Aránguiz had a good chance to score after 12 minutes but the Colombia keeper David Ospina kept out his header with a sensational save. The Bayer 04 pro, who has had a great tournament to date, was substituted on 67 minutes.
Bayer 04 U19 player Marc Lamti watched from the bench as Tunisia drew 1-1 with Mali in Group E at the Africa Cup. Tunisia also drew 1-1 in the first game against Angola. Lamti, who was able to train with the Werkself first team squad last season, made his surprise debut for his country at the start of June. The final group match for Tunisia is on Tuesday (21.00 CET) against Mauritania.

Werkself player Montrell Culbreath and Bayer 04 loanee Francis Onyeka are part of Germany's final squad for the U19 European Championships this summer. The tournament is in Wales from 24 June to 12 July.

Bayer 04 are away to third-division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the 2026/27 DFB Pokal. That was the outcome of the draw on Saturday night, 6 June, at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The Werkself first round tie will be played between 21 and 24 August. The exact date has yet to be finalised.
