Carro and Rolfes report at football department's AGM

The 2025 regular general meeting of the TSV Bayer 04 football department was once again characterised by emotional farewells to deceased members and honours for long-standing members. In addition, the Bayer 04 management and respective department heads reported on the events of the past 12 months. There were no elections this year.

At the beginning of the department meeting in the press conference room of the BayArena, football department head Jürgen Gelsdorf welcomed the members present. This was followed by a minute's silence in memory of the members who had died in the past year. Heinz Schäfer (97 years), Peter M. Kropmanns (88), Helmut Heinz (83) and Roman Klossek (46) were remembered on behalf of all members. The latter, commercial director of Bayer 04's performance centre, was killed in a car accident in Leverkusen in August 2024.

more than four decades with Bayer 04

It continued with the honours for the members who have been with TSV Bayer 04 for 25 years and longer. As a thank-you for their decades of loyality, they received Bayer 04 shirts with their own names on the back. Those honoured were:

40 years:

  • Günther Maczkowiak
  • Waldemar Krause
  • Jürgen Wächter

25 years:

  • Meinolf Sprink

Carro and Rolfes inform members

The next item on the agenda was the annual reports. CEO Fernando Carro and managing director for sport Simon Rolfes began with the report on the sporting situation of the first team. In addition, Linda Schöttler (women), Slawomir Czarniecki (youth) and Dirk Dreher (legends team) also gave an update.

The discharge of the board of directors was the last official item on the evening's programme. No motions were received from members this year.

1-1 against PSV - Werkself miss out on victory in first UCL home game

Second game, second draw in the UEFA Champions League 2025/26: The Werkself were held to a 1-1 draw by Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on matchday two in the league phase. After an early but brief setback in the form of an offside goal by Ivan Perisic for the visitors (5'), the Werkself took control and created numerous good chances in the first half. Leverkusen took a deserved lead after the break in the 65th minute through Christian Kofane. However, PSV's Ismael Saibari replied a few minutes later to level at 1-1 (72').

Bayer 04 3:2 PSV - U19s win second Youth League match

Bayer 04 beat PSV Eindhoven 3-2 on matchday two to clock up the next three points in the UCL Youth League 2025/26. In front of just under 500 spectators at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium, the visitors from the Netherlands led at half-time, but the Werkself turned the game round in the second 45. That makes it two wins on the bounce after the victory in Copenhagen.
