A visit to the top Bundesliga game between Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund (1-1) was followed by an extensive workshop the following day. Among the participants this year were representatives of the rights holders from beIN (Asia), Canal+ (Africa), ESPN (USA), Globo TV (Brazil), and DAZN (Germany & Portugal), as well as representatives of Sky Germany and the DFL itself.
Following the welcome, Lukas Klumpe (Managing Director Athletia Sports) shared insights into current trends in digital media with the participants. This was followed by the presentation by Fernando Carro and Holger Tromp in the press conference facilities of the BayArena at midday. The Spaniard spoke about his work as the CEO of Bayer 04, and, assisted by Tromp, about the development of Bayer 04’s media partners, as well as the continuing internationalisation of the globally active Bundesliga club.

The event continued in the VIP area of the stadium with breakout sessions covering the Bundesliga media product, in which the challenges of sports production were discussed and possible solutions developed against the backdrop of radical changes in the next few years. The day ended with a goal wall shooting challenge with Bundesliga legend Roy Makaay and a dinner event.
About the Bundesliga Editors' Workshop:
The Bundesliga Editors' Workshop is an annual workshop series, during which experienced producers and editors from the DFL's global media partners share insights about the Bundesliga media product and current trends and developments. Under the direction of the DFL's department for audiovisual rights and media products, an intense two-day exchange involving external participants (approximately 30 persons), and the experts of the DFL group (Bundesliga International, Sportcast, DFL Digital Sports, Sportec Solutions, among others), took place with one of the points of interest focusing on the international product portfolio (IPP) and media and product innovations. In the past years, the workshop was held in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Munich, among other places.

A disciplined defensive performance in the second leg saw Bayer 04 prevail against Olympiacos in the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League 2025/26. Thanks to the 2-0 away win in the first leg, the goalless draw at home at the BayArena was enough to ensure progress to the next round. The Black and Reds kept their opponents away from their goal for the best part of 90 minutes.

Bayer 04 can go through to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the ninth time tonight, 24 February (kick-off: 21:00 CET) and be in the top 16 clubs in Europe. A good omen: Leverkusen have progressed to the next round after winning the first leg in 20 of their 22 knockout rounds in European competitions to date. For their part, Greek record champions Olympiacos rested several players for last weekend’s league fixture ahead of the play-off second leg at the BayArena and will now do everything in their power to turn the tide with their usual aggressive and high pressing. The discussions on Werkself radio are likely to be just as intense as the battle on the pitch, with commentator Florian Bechholz welcoming honorary captain Stefan Kießling and goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
