The last time the Werkself faced the French club was in 2014 during pre-season in Seekirchen, Austria, losing 4-1.
Marseille finished third in France’s Ligue 1 last season to secure book a place in qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The first leg of their third-round qualifier takes place the week after facing Leverkusen (8/9 August).
Marseille’s coach as of July is Marcelino. The Spaniard has two former Bundesliga players in his squad in Amine Harit and Matteo Guendouzi.
Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for 40 years, he holds the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Pokal (1993). A record-breaking year ends for the Bayer 04 Women. Fourth place, 13 wins and 43 points in the 2024/25 campaign - the Werkself have never been so good in the Bundesliga.
