Fernando Carro, chairman of the board at Bayer 04, was very positive about the news: "Even the 300 fans at the cup tie palpably improve the atmosphere at the BayArena. Now we can plan on having 6,000 fans for the first home game against Leipzig. We are ready – and very happy about it."
The first Bundesliga home game for the Werkself is on Saturday, 26 September (kick-off: 15.30 CET). RB Leipzig visit the BayArena.
However, there are two restrictions. On the one hand, no spectators will be allowed to attend events if the seven day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants at the venue is 35 or greater and the occurrence of infection is not clearly limited. On the other hand, the local health authorities have to approve the hygiene and safety plan already submitted by Bayer 04 Leverkusen; but the modified coronavirus protection order of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which comes into effect on 16 September, forms the basis for a positive decision.
Bayer 04 announced at the end of August that tickets made available on this basis will initially be drawn exclusively from season ticket holders who have opted for the "draw" version for the 2020/21 season. That also guarantees the traceability of contacts as required by the legislators.
Interested season ticket holders, who have yet to contact Bayer 04, can apply for the "draw" option up to 19 September using an online form that has already been sent by email. A draw will be held ahead of each home game and tickets made available at the discounted match ticket price.
Bayer 04 fans who have decided to support the Werkself from home in the new season can pause their season ticket for the 2020/21 season. The club will not charge for this and the seat will be guaranteed for the 2021/22 season. If Bayer 04 do not receive a response by 19 September, the relevant season ticket will be paused for the current season.

A fresh look for the BayArena: The Bayer 04 stadium will have new seating in the form of folding seats for the 2026/27 campaign that will ensure significantly improved seating comfort and simplified movement within the rows of seats. As part of routine replacement after 17 years, fans of the Werkself were able to purchase the existing seats, used to witness the first German league title in the club's history. In addition, a large proportion of the seats will be donated to charitable projects, primarily in the local region. Bayer 04 fans can look forward to new, functional folding seats for the season opener at the beginning of August - still in the club colours of black and red, of course.
