After a goalless first 45 minutes in Garoua in Cameroon, it looked like the two teams would go into the break on level terms. However, in the third minute of added time, Burkina Faso's Dango Ouattara found the back of the net. Tapsoba and Co. stood up to the pressure from Tunisia in the second half and continued to resist despite having a man sent off on 83 minutes. The Leverkusen player was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
Burkina Faso celebrated their biggest success in the competition since the lost semi-final in 2017 (against Egypt on penalty) and the 1-0 defeat in the final of 2013 against Nigeria.
Tonight will decide who Tapsoba and his teammates face in the semi-final (Wednesday 2 February, 20.00 CET): Senegal and the surprise team from Equatorial Guinea meet for a place in the last four. Cameroon are already through to the semi-finals and their opponents will be either Egypt or Morocco. The final will be played on Sunday 6 February at 20.00 CET.
