Four-match ban for Wendell

Following his red card in the Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund, the DFB sports tribunal has imposed a four-match ban on Wendell with one game suspended up to 31 December 2018.

That means the 24-year-old full-back will not be available for the three remaining league games before the winter break – he will miss the fixtures against VfB Stuttgart (8 December), Werder Bremen (13 December) and Hannover 96 (17 December).

41 minutes into the 1-1 home draw against Borussia Dortmund, Wendell mistimed a challenge on Gonzalo Castro and he caught the former Bayer 04 player on the ankle. Referee Robert Hartmann (Wangen) initially booked the Brazilian but then decided to show the red card after reviewing the video footage.

Bayer 04 have accepted the verdict and it comes into effect immediately.
