There were twelve different elements in the areas of medicine, prevention and fitness in the tests at the BayArena. “First of all, we ascertained the medical condition of our players and completed orthopaedic and internal examinations,” explained Dr. Malte Krüger, head sports scientist at Bayer 04. “Then we produced a comprehensive fitness profile. The areas covered are speed, strength, stamina, balance and coordination ability. That enables us to analyse the performance capability of the individual player.”
These data and findings are used at different levels in training. “On the one hand, it helps us to analyse training and, on the other, we produce prevention plans tailored to the individual players based on the profiles to help avoid in juries,” said Krüger.
