Ten years at Bayer 04 – Havertz film on YouTube from 1 August

Kai Havertz joined Leverkusen in the summer of 2010 as a talented eleven-year-old. On this tenth anniversary, Bayer 04 have dedicated a 50-minute documentary to the Bundesliga player with 118 appearances under his belt that portrays his impressive development from a talented boy from Mariadorf to a top player highly rated at home and abroad. The in-house film will be broadcast in full on the Bayer 04 YouTube channel from Saturday, 1 August 2020, under the title ‘KAI – the Havertz Story | 10 years at Bayer 04 Leverkusen’.

Kai Havertz has spent nearly half his life at Leverkusen and already broken a lot of records at the club and in the Bundesliga at the age of 21. For two years, Havertz has also been an international, a hero amongst several generations of fans and, according to numerous pundits, he is one of the most fascinating players in the world of football with his outstanding playing style.

In the film, fellow Germany international Toni Kroos, friend and former teammate Julian Brandt, Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes, coach Peter Bosz plus the two Bayer 04 managing directors Rudi Völler and Fernando Carro look back at special moments with and by Havertz.

Viewers can watch exclusive video footage from the the early years such as Havertz’ first interview and his best goals for the Bayer 04 youth teams – through to previously unreleased material from his time as a first team player.

Havertz explains what it was like for him and his family when he moved away from home to fulfil his dream of playing professional football, how he reconciled his education and training and which hobby gives him the most peace of mind. His comment on the past ten years: “The time has flown by.”

Eight Werkself stars nominated for Team of the Season

The German Football League (DFL) has launched the vote for the Bundesliga Team of the Season. As of now, fans of the Werkself can select no fewer than eight Bayer 04 players in the top XI of the 2023/24 campaign: on the shortlist are Lukas Hradecky, Jonathan Tah, Jeremie Frimpong, Alejandro Grimaldo, Granit Xhaka, Exequiel Palacios, Florian Wirtz and Victor Boniface. Voting closes on Monday 22 April at 9:00 CEST.

Bayer 04 Women out to top last season’s tally in trip to Leipzig

Bayer 04 Women have the chance to surpass their points total from last season with three games remaining in the Google Pixel Bundesliga as they visit RB Leipzig for Matchday 19 on Friday (kick-off: 6.30pm CEST). Victory against the promoted side would take Robert de Pauw’s team onto 31 points, one more than they managed in their 22 fixtures in 2022/23.
