In March, Pohjanpalo made his comeback after eight-months in rehab in the friendly against Ajax and since then he was back in full training with the Werkself.
In the view of the medics, this apparent setback represents another step on the way to overcoming the injury. "Given the full workload, the pain is a not an expected reaction by the bone but it does require another long-term break from training. In the final analysis, it is another stage towards the recovery of the bone structure," explained the Bayer 04 team doctor Dr. Philipp Ehrenstein.
Last year, complete rest was required for the bone due to its instability in order to prevent a possible fracture. It remains to be seen when Pohjanpalo will be able to return to training.
