His thirteenth international – without doubt a very special one for Tin Jedvaj. The 22-year-old Werkself pro played the full 90 minutes in his first World Cup game for Croatia on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win in the final group match against Iceland. Croatia go through to the Round of 16 having won all three matches in Group D.
Jedvaj had a solid game at right back for Croatia who probably did not imagine they would clock up three wins in a group including Argentina, Iceland and Nigeria. Jedvaj did not feature in the 2-0 victory over the African team and the 3-0 win against Messi and Co. but he did go the full distance against Iceland. The Icelanders had the better chances in the first half but the former Hamburg player Milan Badelj opened the scoring on 53 minutes. Gylfi Sigurdsson levelled from the penalty spot on 76 minutes but Ivan Perisic scored a last-minute winner.
Croatia can be confident going into the knock-out rounds. The team coached by Zlatko Dalic play Denmark in the Round of 16 on Sunday (20.00 CET) in Nizhny Novgorod.

Full-back Julia Mickenhagen is leaving Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the end of the season to join Bundesliga newcomers VfB Stuttgart. The 21-year-old’s contract with the club expires on 30 June.
