Adli sidelined for the rest of the season

The current season is over for Amine Adli. The Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker suffered a torn ligament in his right thigh playing for the France U21s in a friendly against the Faroe Islands on Thursday 24 March.

That was the diagnosis following an MRI scan at the weekend. An hour into the game on Thursday evening, Amine Adli broke down in a foot race and fell to the ground. A return to full training is expected to be possible as part of the pre-season in the summer.

Adli joined Bayer 04 from French second division club FC Toulouse before the start of the current campaign. The U21 international has made 34 appearances for the Werkself this term and has contributed four goals and four assists.

Wirtz operation a success

The first important step on the way to his comeback has been made: Florian Wirtz underwent a successful operation on his left knee in Innsbruck. The 18-year-old Germany international suffered a torn cruciate in the middle of March in the Bundesliga game against FC Köln.

The operation was performed by knee specialist Dr Christian Fink accompanied by Dr. Philipp Ehrenstein, Bayer 04’s orthopaedic doctor. Florian Wirtz will initially remain in Innsbruck following the operation and then return to Leverkusen for his rehab in the Bayer 04 Werkstatt.

Werkself Review #OLYB04: 'The first step is done'

It took exactly 60 minutes for the Werkself to take the lead through a perfectly finished counter-attack by Patrik Schick in the first leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League play-off at Olympiacos. Referring to the meeting in the league phase and the initially squandered opportunities, coach Kasper Hjulmand said afterwards: "I thought: 'Oh no, déjà-vu.'" But after the opening goal, it took just 144 seconds for the Czech to spark more wild celebrations among those in black and red in the Greek cauldron, when Schick nodded in Alejandro Grimaldo's corner. Much to the delight of the Bayer 04 fans, his teammates and his coach, who had warm words for the striker in the aftermath. The Werkself Review.
