Bayer 04 Leverkusen signed the centre-forward from Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg in January 2022. Originally planned to start the 2022/23 season, the Bayer 04 management succeeded in bringing the Iran international to Leverkusen in the winter transfer window. Azmoun signed a contract to 30 June 2027 and he wears the number 9 shirt. "He adds additional quality to our offensive game and Sardar will make our attack even more unpredictable and more prolific," said sporting managing director Simon Rolfes about the 1.86-metre tall striker who won the Russian league title three times in succession with Zenit.
Sardar Azmoun is leaving Bayer 04 to join Italian top-flight club AS Roma on a season-long loan. Leverkusen have agreed a deal with the Italian club to transfer the Iranian striker, who joined the Werkself from Zenit St Petersburg in January 2022. The Iran international has a contract at Leverkusen to 30 June 2027.
