Odilon Kossounou signed for Bayer 04 in July 2021 as a newly-crowned champion of Belgium with Club Brugge. The Ivory Coast international has a contract at Leverkusen to 30 June 2026 and he wears the number 6 shirt for the Werkself. “I'm happy the transfer to Bayer 04 has gone through. I want to show at Leverkusen that I am a top player at this level and that I can help the team,” declared the central defender at his presentation at the BayArena.

Odilon Kossounou certainly deserved this reception: At a Bayer 04 staff meeting, Fernando Carro, CEO, and head coach Xabi Alonso presented the Africa Cup of Nations winner with a special memento of his great achievement on behalf of all members of staff. The Werkself player won AFCON with Ivory Coast in the middle of February in his own country.

Werkself player Odilon Kossounou wins the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024. The Leverkusen defender with Ivory Coast won the continental tournament in their own country with a 2-1 win in the final against Nigeria on Sunday 11 February.
