Odilon Kossounou signed for Bayer 04 in July 2021 as a newly-crowned champion of Belgium with Club Brugge. The Ivory Coast international has a contract at Leverkusen to 30 June 2026 and he wears the number 6 shirt for the Werkself. “I'm happy the transfer to Bayer 04 has gone through. I want to show at Leverkusen that I am a top player at this level and that I can help the team,” declared the central defender at his presentation at the BayArena.
Odilon Kossounou certainly deserved this reception: At a Bayer 04 staff meeting, Fernando Carro, CEO, and head coach Xabi Alonso presented the Africa Cup of Nations winner with a special memento of his great achievement on behalf of all members of staff. The Werkself player won AFCON with Ivory Coast in the middle of February in his own country.
