‘Baumi’ is an absolute leader in the team – his considered words carry weight. Julian Baumgartlinger also counts as a solid holding midfielder with a good sense for tactics: a relay switch in the engine room. "I play in a very versatile position," says the man who has worn the number 15 shirt for the Werkself since 2016. The Austria captain covers around twelve kilometres per game. Baumgartlinger faces long-term lay-off
Bayer 04 will have to manage without midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger long term. The Austria captain has had to undergo another operation on his knee following the cruciate injury suffered in January 2021.
