Argentinian attacker Alejo Sarco moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2024/25 winter transfer window. Sarco joined the Werkself from Argentinian champions Vélez Sarsfield. ‘Alejo Sarco is a promise for the future of Bayer 04 Leverkusen,’ said Bayer 04 managing director sport Simon Rolfes following the signing. ‘He is a technically skilful player, quick, agile and assertive in challenges. With his finishing ability, he completes the profile of a modern centre-forward. Alejo has a promising career ahead of him.’

After a flawless tournament with only victories in the group and knockout stages, Argentina narrowly missed out on the title at the U20 World Cup in Chile. In the final on Monday night, Bayer 04 player Alejo Sarco and his fellow countrymen lost 2-0 to Morocco. Both goals were scored in the first half of the match played in Santiago de Chile. Sarco played for the first 60 minutes.

Alejo Sarco and Argentina won their second group match at the U20 World Cup in Chile on Wednesday night. They beat Australia 4-1 with Sarco setting the tone early with a goal in the third minute. As in the first group game against Cuba, where Sarco scored twice, the 19-year-old was also named "Player of the Match" against Australia.
