He has amazed everybody: When Edmond Tapsoba moved to Bayer 04 from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimarães in January 2020, the central defender was actually seen as a promising option for the future. But Tapsoba quickly settled in and established himself as a first choice. In spite of all the language barriers, he impressed immediately with robust, quality work in the style of an experienced player: strong in challenges, incredibly calm under pressure, confident on the ball and accurate in opening up play. 'Eddy' quickly brought defensive stability to the Werkself. Tapsoba's calmness on the pitch fits in with his private preferences: "I like to be at home. One of my hobbies is lying in bed."

Tapsoba sets up foundation in Burkina Faso
Commitment under the Cross: Werkself player Edmond Tapsoba has set up the 'Fondation Edmond Tapsoba' in his home country Burkina Faso. The defender's foundation, based in Ouagadougou, aims to provide sustainable support to a wide range of people in different circumstances. The focus of the measures is on disadvantaged children, older people, the homeless, victims of violence, people with serious illness, refugees and people with disabilities.

AFCON 2023: Kossounou into quarter-finals, Tapsoba and Adli eliminated
The Werkself trio of Odilon Kossounou, Edmond Tapsoba and Amine Adli have all now played their round of 16 ties at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. While Kossounou and hosts Ivory Coast have advanced to the quarter-finals, the tournament is over for Tapsoba’s Burkina Faso and Adli’s Morocco. The pair are expected back in Leverkusen on Thursday.

AFCON 2023: Werkself trio through to last 16
Werkself trio Edmond Tapsoba, Odilon Kossounou and Amine Adli have all got through the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and are into the round of 16. Tapsoba and Burkina Faso finished second in their group, Adli and Morocco went through as winners, while Kossounou and hosts Ivory Coast qualified for the knockout stages as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Werkself trio in action at AFCON 2023
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast is about to get under way. From Saturday 13 January, three Leverkusen men will also be taking place in the continental championship: Odilon Kossounou will be involved in the opening match with hosts Ivory Coast, while Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso) and Amine Adli (Morocco) are also at the tournament.

Hand injury sidelines Tapsoba
Bayer 04 defender Edmond Tapsoba will miss tomorrow's UEFA Europa League game away to Qarabag and the Bundesliga home game against Union Berlin on Sunday. The Burkina Faso international has to undergo an operation on his left hand following the injury suffered in last week's 5-2 DFB Pokal win away to third division SV Sandhausen.
