Zonal defence: Goalkeeping coach training course at the BayArena

For the sixth time, a large number of interested participants gathered for the training session in the Premium Lounge at the BayArena – the theme was: ‘Be bold and proactive in zonal defence. Become a reliable zonal defender through the right mindset, training and realistic expectations.’

At the start of the evening, Jan Conradi, assistant goalkeeping coach for the first team, and Marco Kostmann, U19 goalkeeping coach, explained the theoretical background of the main topic to the participants. The focus was on the question: What does it take to become a good zonal defender?

Practical training with Bayer 04 keepers

Afterwards, those present were able to put the theoretical ideas into practice straight away. Together with Patrick Bade, goalkeeping coach for the Bayer 04 women’s team, Conradi and Kostmann demonstrated suitable exercises for improving spatial defence to four young Werkself keepers at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium. The session concluded with a joint reflection on theory and practice with the participants.

Regular training courses

The free goalkeeper coaching courses will continue to take place twice a season. Bayer 04 will provide details of the exact dates and how to register via the club media channels in good time.
