U13 Youth Cup: Bayer 04 U13 v Fortuna Düsseldorf 4-1
A win but not convincing – that was the conclusion of the U13 coaches after the win against Fortuna Düsseldorf. "We never really found our rhythm," said coach Andrzej Buncol.
However, the Werkself lads were effective in front of goal. After taking an early lead the U13s scored twice more to take a comfortable 3-0 lead into half-time. Düsseldorf refused to give up in the second half developed into an open game with the Werkself lads securing a 4-1 victory at the end.
U13 Youth Cup: Bayer 04 U13 v SC Paderborn 2-2
In contrast to the match against Düsseldorf, the U13s, playing with a thinner squad due to 8 players being sidelines, were alert and took a deserved 1-0 lead against Paderborn. Two mistakes in Bayer 04 defence led to the visitors turning the game round with a 2-1 lead at the start of the second half.
"The lads showed a great reaction and tried everything against a very energetic opponent," praised coach Maximilian Straub. The U13s were rewarded for their efforts in the closing stages with an equaliser to make it 2-2 and ensure they remain unbeaten in the Youth Cup this season.
Ruhr Sports Cup: Bayer 04 U11 v RW Oberhausen 16-2
The U11s were on the front foot from the start against Oberhausen in the RSC tie. The hosts were 4-1 up after the first third and they even missed a number of good chances.
The U11 side refused to ease off for the rest of the match and ended up with a runaway victory.
Ruhr Sports Cup: Bayer 04 U10 v MSV Duisburg 5-3
In the RSC tie, the U10 side initially failed to exploit their superiority on the pitch against Duisburg. "Somehow we lacked conviction in our finishing," said coach Dmitri Teschner.
The visitors from Duisburg remained in the game for a long time. In the end individual feats decided the game with the Leverkusen lads winning 5-3.
Ruhr Sports Cup: VfL Bochum v Bayer 04 U9 4-5
The U9 team produce an impressive performance at Bochum. "The team were on top in all areas but didn't make enough of it," said coach Sven Neuhaus after the game. Score was 1-1 up to the second third.
Bochum made the most of mistakes by the Werkself youngsters, netting two goals to make it 3-1. "The lads really turned it on in the last third and were determined to turn the game round," declared a pleased Neuhaus. The U9s edged closer to getting a result. In the closing stages the two teams were all square at 4-4 and the Bayer 04 players actually managed to turn it round with a 5-4 win at the end of the match.
