After Runge moves up to first team coaching staff: Brok becomes U19 head coach, Adam takes over U17s

The successor to Sergi Runge as head coach of the Bayer 04 U19 team has been decided. Following the Spaniard's appointment to Kasper Hjulmand's first team coaching staff, the current U17 head coach Kevin Brok (photo) will be responsible for the U19s until the end of the season. As a result, Benjamin Adam will also move up a year and will now coach the U17s instead of the U16s, also until the end of the season. The structure of the coaching and support staff will remain unchanged.

Dutchman Kevin Brok, who joined Leverkusen last summer, takes charge of the U19 s for the first time for the UEFA Youth League opener away to FC Copenhagen next Thursday, 18 September (kick-off: 13:45 CEST).

Benjamin Adam, who has been a youth coach at Bayer 04 since 2018, will be in action with the U17 s for the first time next Saturday, 20 September (kick-off: 11:00 CEST), at home against MSV Duisburg.

The new head coach for the Leverkusen U16 s will be announced in due course.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended youngster Montrell Culbreath's contract once again. Having only signed a deal with the Bundesliga club until 30 June 2030 in January, still as an U19 player, the attacking midfielder, who's since established himself in the first-team squad, has penned a new contract valid until 30 June 2031. Culbreath joined the Werkself academy in 2023 and made 16 first-team appearances in the 2025/26 season in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League, scoring one goal.

The date and kick-off time for Bayer 04’s match in the first round of the 2026/27 DFB Pokal have been confirmed. The Werkself face SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday afternoon, 22 August, at 13:00 CEST. The German Football Association (DFB) announced this today, Wednesday. The Pokal tie against the Hessen state cup winners will be played at the BRITA Arena. Ticket information to follow at a later date.
