The Bayer 04 Women face another tough challenge after the game against SGS. “Potsdam have a similar quality to Essen. We’re up against a very strong opponent that has the fourth best attack in the league not for no reason,” said Feifel about the opposition. That’s confirmed by a look at the goal difference: With 43 goals scored, Potsdam have demonstrated how dangerous they are in front of goal this term. But Leverkusen should try and get on the front foot as the 42 goals conceded by Turbine – two more than the Werkself Women – underline their defensive frailty.
A glance at the table shows the urgent need for goals and points for Bayer 04 on Sunday. “There aren’t many games left to play. So we need every point,” said Feifel. The situation has worsened for the Black and Reds ahead of this matchday: Köln picked up points in the week against bottom-of-the-table Jena and are now above the Werkself Women. Level on 13 points and separated by just one goal in terms of goal difference, MSV Duisburg are just behind Leverkusen in the first relegation spot. “We’ve learned the lessons from the last two league defeats against MSV Duisburg and TSG Hoffenheim. On top of that, my team recognises the seriousness of the situation. We’ll give our all against Potsdam and approach the clash with the right attitude,” declared Feifel ahead of the game.
The head coach has the same squad available against Turbine Potsdam as he did against Essen. In the second double-fixture week in succession after the restart, not all of the players are at 100 per cent as Feifel noted before the cup tie. The final decision on the composition of the squad will be made after today’s training session.
The match will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. MagentaSport will stream the match live free of charge.
