Sylwia Matysik leaves Bayer 04

Defender Sylwia Matysik is leaving Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The Poland international, whose contract was due to expire in 2025, is invoking the release clause to join 1. FC Köln in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga.

“Sylwia was a very reliable player who always worked for the team,” said Bayer 04 Women sporting director Achim Feifel. “She could surely have improved at a high level here in the following years, so we regret her departure and wish her all the best for her future.”

Matysik had joined Bayer 04 from Górnik Łęczna in the summer of 2020. The 27-year-old made 66 competitive appearances for the Werkself, scoring one goal. She featured in 19 matches in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga last season and has 54 caps for Poland.

“I’d like to thank all my companions for the four years at Bayer 04. I went to Leverkusen without family and friends, it was my first spell abroad. I found a great environment here and had an intense time with many highs and lows,” said Matysik. “Now I feel ready to look for a new challenge.”
