“Even though Sofia was unfortunately unable to get time on the pitch here with us, she was always a valuable part of the squad,” said Achim Feifel, sporting director of the Bayer 04 Women: “She has now chosen to take a new sporting path and we wish her all the best.”
Cava Marin was given a professional contract with the Werkself in the summer of 2023 after several years in the Bayer 04 youth teams but she did not make an appearance for the Bundesliga team. Last October, she suffered a torn ACL in her right knee and was sidelined for almost the whole of last season. Since then she has completed her rehab at the Werkstatt, the Leverkusen training and rehabilitation centre at the BayArena.
The Werkself entertain PSV in the first home game in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League campaign. The game on Matchday 2 is at the BayArena on Wednesday, 1 October with the kick-off at 21:00 CEST. Information on ticket sales.
