"Of course, we are very happy to be able to continue working with Milena. This early extension indicates we are on the right track," said Linda Schöttler, Women's football general manager at Bayer 04.
And head coach Achim Feifel is happy he can continue to count on the Bosnia-Herzegovina International: "She's an incredibly important player for us. She's good in the air, dynamic, aggressive and committed. Milena has a strong character and that goes down well with the team. She still has a lot of potential and she should be able to develop well here with us."
The 28-year-old signed for Bayer 04 in 2019/20 and has since made 36 appearances in a Black and Red shirt. She has clocked up 14 goals including seven in the current campaign. That makes Nikolić the Women’s team top goalscorer.
"I feel honoured being able to carry on playing for Bayer 04. We are involved in building something up here together and I'm proud to be part of that. We have a lot more to give and we have big targets. I'm satisfied and happy to carry on playing here," said the striker.
Bayer 04 are through to the second round of the DFB Pokal after a 4-0 win at Sonnenhof Großaspach on Friday night. The game was paused after only 18 minutes due to a storm over the ground. After a lengthy delay, play resumed and Patrik Schick opened the scoring. Arthur, Christian Kofane and Alejandro Grimaldo made things more comfortable in the second half, as the fourth-tier side had two players sent off.
