“The league association’s newly confirmed independence is a significant milestone for women’s football in Germany. It offers the opportunity to drive the league’s development forward over the long term and to continue closing the gap on the international stage,” said Linda Schöttler, Women’s Football Manager at Bayer 04: “For us at Bayer 04, this means additional opportunities to further advance our professionalisation in women’s football, to grow and to consistently pursue our goals.”
The framework and lease agreement, negotiated prior to the Bundestag meeting, runs from 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2034. It governs the legal, organisational and financial relations between the DFB and the new league association, FBL e.V. The broad outlines of the new model are based on the structure in men’s football governing the relationship between the DFB and the Bundesliga.

Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for 40 years, he holds the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Pokal (1993).
