His free-kick goals were legendary, his goal celebrations unique: He scored 30 times for Bayer 04 in 145 matches. Alejandro Grimaldo netted nine goals from direct free-kicks – a stand-alone record in Europe’s top five leagues. Having moved from Lisbon to Leverkusen for the 2023/24 season, the left-back became a role model and a leader on the pitch under the Bayer Cross. At Bayer 04, he won the double and became a fan favourite. Ahead of the 2026/27 season, the number 20 is leaving the Werkself to join Spanish club Atlético Madrid in La Liga.
