Hjulmand ahead of #B04FCB: ‘A night like this always brings opportunities’

Bayer 04 host Bayern Munich at the BayArena on Wednesday (20:45 CEST) in the semi-final of the 2025/26 DFB Pokal. Ahead of the knockout tie, head coach Kasper Hjulmand spoke at his press conference about the motivation for this big game at home and much more.

“The DFB Pokal final is one of the biggest fixtures in Europe. We really want to be there. The chance to play a final and win something special is our big motivation,” Hjulmand said on Tuesday afternoon.

Hjulmand: ‘Playing for the fans and the club’

Talking about what’s needed for a win, the Dane added: “We’re playing in our own stadium with super energy. We really need a top performance again. We’ve had good games against top opponents already this season. The team is ready for the game and will give their all. The players play for the fans and the club, and will give their all to achieve the goal of getting to Berlin.”

The team standing in the way of that objective is Bayern, who come to a sold-out BayArena full of confidence after winning the Bundesliga title on Sunday, just days on from also knocking Real Madrid out of the UEFA Champions League. “They’re one of the best teams in the world. It’ll be a big challenge. We did well against them in the league game in March [1-1 draw], but we again need to be very precise and sharp and take our chances,” Hjulmand explained further.

Hjulmand: ‘Concentrating on our performance’

While the Werkself are in the final four of the cup for the third season running, it’s the first time in six years that Bayern have got to this stage. Asked whether the pressure is on treble-chasing Bayern, Hjulmand responded, “The best players and the best teams like pressure. It’s a good thing. We also like this pressure. It’s the best time of the season. We’re concentrating on our performance. Special things can happen in football, especially in the cup. A night like this always brings opportunities.”
