"Jan Hoepner is a merited coach at Bayer 04 and we didn't want to get in the way of him having this opportunity. We would like to thank Jan for his good work and we wish him every success," said Thomas Eichin. The head of the Performance Centre at Bayer 04 added: "Interest from professional clubs in our youth coaches confirms our approach to development."

Following the departure of Hoepner, fellow coach Thomas Zdebel takes charge of the U17 team. The 48-year-old will be assisted by Benjamin Adam and Ismael Camenforte Lopez.
