Bayer 04 took over the spomsorship at the beginning of May and now it was finally time to get started. As part of the BioBrotbox campaign to promote a balanced diet for children, a large number of volunteers from local companies gathered in Leverkusen-Opladen once again this year to fill sandwich boxes with a healthy breakfast. After a warm welcome from Marianne Ackermann from the lead organisation NaturGut Ophoven e.V. and a group photo, the breakfasts were packed.
Over 2,000 first-formers in Leverkusen can now look forward to a tasty and healthy meal when they start school. The contents of the boxes - a packet of cress, a tea bag, two slices of bread, cheese spread and a wooden knife - are organically grown and produced and were donated by the campaign's various network partners. Bayer 04 contributed 2,016 muesli bars - and hard-working helpers: From the Women's team, support was provided by Caroline Kehre and Juliette Vidal, the U19 players Ferdinand Pohl and Nils Gernhardt were also on board. Marc Adomat, head of the schools department, also lent a hand.
Bayer 04 has supported the BioBrotbox campaign for many years. "Because the local commitment is very important to us and the topics of health and nutrition are a great fit for Bayer 04 and our sustainability strategy," explains Matthias Adler, Head of Fans and Sustainability. Marianne Ackermann is also very pleased with the commitment by the Black and Reds: "The Werkself are the ideal sponsor for the BioBrotbox because, as a role model, it motivates children to be actively aware of what they eat. Healthy eating and exercise are just as important in professional sport as they are for schoolchildren."
Vidal and Kehrer clearly enjoyed themselves, as did the lads from the U19 team. "It was a cool experience, also because I think the project is very important to help young children have a healthy diet," said Gernhardt. Vidal added with a smile: "I'm sure the children will be happy with the food."
